What We’re Looking for:

At Hood Container Corporation, we are searching for a Shipping Manager to lead the Shipping department in our Lebanon, TN manufacturing plant (Nashville Area).  The Hood Nashville plant was integrated into the Hood Companies in 2019.   Our capabilities include digital printing, lithographic printing, laminating, and multiple converting options including Rotary Die and Flexo. 

As the Shipping Manager, you will lead a department of t, and the team will look to you for technical guidance and alignment of operational plans to meet short and long-term goals for safety, quality, waste, production, and ultimately, our customers.  

How You Will Contribute:

  • Manage the Shipping Department workload through:
    • Scheduling shipments utilizing small company fleet of five trucks, and scheduling common carriers
    • Monitoring appearance of pallets for quality presentation
    • Overseeing maintenance and upkeep of equipment in the Shipping Department
    • Supporting all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping
    • Maintain a priority list for current day shipments and next day 1st loads.
  • Train and mentor employees
  • Spot trailers during the day for receiving and shipping.
  • Make out load schedule for loaders during the day.
  • Order pallets when needed.
  • Cut bills when needed.
  • Make dock appt. with customers that require it.
  • Work with outside Trucking Companies to deliver overflow for the day.
  • Work with customer service to schedule hot rush items and common carriers.
  • Complete necessary reports; enter shipping data into computer system.
  • Conduct quarterly inventories.
  • Report personnel issues to Plant Manager and assist in resolving personnel issues through employee counseling and disciplinary action.
  • Participate in departmental and company meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

What it Takes:

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate all aspects of a shipping department. 
  • Ability to successfully motivate and lead your team
  • Five or more years of experience working in high-speed shipping operations.
  • Experience leading a team of 15 employees (2 shifts)
  • Experience working in a facility with ISO/AIB requirements
  • Able to use computer tools such as Amtech
