The Opportunity: Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator will play a vital role in estimating projects and developing target strategies. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience, fostering valuable connections, and contribute to the overall success of our projects. in the successful completion of construction projects by ensuring accurate and comprehensive estimates are developed within project goals. The Senior Estimator will collaborate with the Project Team, attend various meetings, and contribute to maintaining a positive work environment. This position will be based out of our Richmond office location.
This role looks for someone who has a fantastic attitude and is responsible, accountable, and hard-working. Someone with the drive and passion to develop long-lasting relationships built on accountability, transparency, and a commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Manage multiple tenders simultaneously, ensuring estimates align with project goals.
- Validate project estimates in compliance with approved plans, specifications, shop drawings, and relevant building codes.
- Analyze drawings and specifications to enhance the accuracy of estimates.
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Develop and maintain sub-contractors/supplier relations.
- Prepare and consult with the Project team on construction methodology and schedules during the estimating process.
- Identify and evaluate project cost risks and opportunities during the budgeting process.
- Present completed estimates to other departments and clients in an organized, detailed, and clear manner.
- Prepare instructions to bidders, bid forms, scopes of work, and other tender documents.
- Contact trades and consultants for budget and tender pricing.
- Review and evaluate bids and proposals, utilizing historical data in the form of unit and productivity rates.
- Organize and update vendor and material pricing information.
- Solicit costing and schedule information from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain unit price and productivity knowledge and database.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in commercial, industrial, and/or institutional construction projects as an Estimator, preferably for a General Contractor.
- Experience with Sage 100 is a strong asset.
- Post-secondary education in a related Construction Management/Estimating program or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of CCDC contract standards, insurances and bonding is required.
- Proven ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Experience working with ProCore is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, MS Project, Teams, and OneDrive).
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Fluent in written and verbal English and an ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to keep track of multiple projects and deliverables.
- Proactive and organized with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent organization skills with an eye-for-detail and an enthusiasm for quality.
- Accessibility to vehicle preferred with the ability to travel between sites in the lower mainland.
