The Opportunity: Site Superintendent
In this role, you will supervise commercial construction sites from start to finish, ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget, while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Working closely with a Project Manager, you will contribute to developing schedules, controlling costs, tracking site activity, and fostering positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and team members.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Manage all on-site activities; ensure project construction is executed in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
- Responsible for field documentation such as daily logs, conducting daily safety inspections and other required reports.
- Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary; include coordinating offsite utilities and review with the applicable authority.
- Review on-site work to confirm that project is being built as per drawings, specifications, code and ensure that all finishes are to the client’s and industry standards.
- Manage multiple smaller projects concurrently.
- Facilitate distribution of site information across project stakeholders: Drawing Packages, SSIs, RFIs, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical drawings, identify potential conflicts and issues in advance.
- Chair project meetings with consultants and sub-trades as necessary.
- Liaison with all City Officials and create working relationships.
- Create schedules and assist sub-trades to comply and maintain productivity.
- Supervise all sub-trades, suppliers, and workers.
- Conduct site safety orientation and weekly safety meetings with sub-trades.
- Investigate and resolve any issues that arise.
- Assemble the job site office and equipment requirements.
- Monitor and maintain the project construction schedule on a regular basis.
- Implement and enforce the requirements of WorksafeBC and IDR’s Health and Safety Program.
- Allocate resources, manage production and coordinate people and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial, industrial and/or institutional construction projects as a site superintendent.
- Level 1 First Aid required.
- Red Seal Certification is a strong asset.
- Extensive knowledge of procedures, methods, conditions, and documents related to building construction.
- Demonstrated history of timely and within-budget construction.
- Ability to understand the scopes of work, project and schedule, as well as interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proactive and positive leadership and supervisory skills
- A “can-do” attitude with the ability to jump in to fix things up around the site as needed.
- Attentive to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and scheduling software.
- Experience with Procore is a strong asset.
- Ability to commute to sites in the Metro Vancouver Area.
- Ability to travel on an as-needed basis (BC interior and/or other provinces)
- Access to a vehicle is required.
