Job Summary: You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT of NAVAL ACADEMY.
Major Duties:
- You will need to have experience driving Motor Coach Buses to qualify for this position. You will primarily be driving 26-56 passenger Motor Coaches, though you may also drive different sizes of passenger buses to transport passengers.
- You will load and arrange cargo into vehicle using techniques and equipment (e.g., chains, binders, straps, tie-downs) for safe transit.
- You will interpret instructions or specifications related to bus operations, preventive maintenance, and passenger safety.
- You will frequently operate a smart phone as part of your daily duties, meaning you must be familiar with and able to use cell phones, email, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
- You will wear a uniform at all times while in a duty status or as otherwise directed, in accordance with a uniform instruction.
- You will be responsible for qualifying for and maintaining a GTCC in accordance with all regulations, policies, and procedures while in this position.
Qualifications: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates (in addition to qualifications/screen out element). The selective placement factor is: A valid Class A OR Class B Commercial License (CDL) with a passenger (P) endorsement. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Operating coach buses with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) above 26,000 pounds, specifically 26-56 passenger; 2) Performing operator maintenance on all vehicles operated (e.g., monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle both inside and outside); 3) Using predetermined routes. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
