The Community Services Coordinator in the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) in the College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources (CAFNR) at Prairie View A&M University plays a critical role in advancing CAFNR’s strategic priorities by forging sustainable partnerships, implementing applied research in real-world settings, and developing initiatives that uplift and empower communities served by the college. The Community Services Coordinator will serve as a key bridge between academic innovation and community impact, ensuring that CAFNR’s research and resources are translated into meaningful outcomes for stakeholders across the region.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Designs and executes all-encompassing community engagement strategies that align with CAFNR’s mission to improve the quality of life through education, research, and outreach.
Establishes and maintains strong relationships with local, regional, and state partners to co-create programs that address specific community needs.
Represents CAFNR in community coalitions, public forums, and development initiatives to foster awareness, trust, and collaboration.
Initiates and formalizes strategic partnerships with agricultural agencies, non-profits, and civic organizations to extend CAFNR’s footprint and impact.
Assists to expand current partnerships, initiatives and development efforts.
Identifies and pursues new opportunities for collaborative ventures that align with institutional goals and community development priorities.
Analyzes ongoing research projects within the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) to identify viable applications in local communities.
Works in tandem with CARC faculty and staff to co-design community-focused research projects that integrate student researchers and promote experiential learning.
Translates research findings into accessible, community-ready programs, tools, or resources that address agricultural, nutritional, environmental, or economic challenges.
Participates in college-wide activities, committees, and performs other duties as necessary to support the overall mission and goals of the college.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications, Agriculture, Community Development, Public Affairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in agricultural research, community outreach, extension education, or partnership development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Agriculture, Community Development, Public Affairs, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with various stakeholders and work collaboratively across disciplines.
Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs.
Familiarity with agricultural and rural community issues.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other communication tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management.
Special Requirements:
Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of seven years of experience.
