Insomniac Games is looking for a Director, Gameplay Management. In this role the Director, Gameplay Management is responsible for leading the team of Gameplay programmers to deliver excellent results for multiple games. This role collaborates with Gameplay leaders to shape a vision for gameplay development at the studio, then builds strategies to execute that vision to ensure industry-best outcomes for the game product and the work environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develops studio goals in collaboration with studio leadership.
  • Defines, evangelizes, and executes the studio’s near- and long-term gameplay programming vision, strategy, and goals, balancing innovation with operational efficiencies in alignment with the studio’s overall business and creative objectives.
  • Manages and develops programming directors, managers, and leads to ensure collaborative development practices and excellent project results.
  • Ensures that gameplay managers effectively execute company policy and process, including hiring, onboarding, career-pathing, goal setting, performance managing, staffing, and scheduling.
  • Develops and implements a department structure that maximizes both the quality of work and employee well-being.
  • Collaborates with project leaders to build staffing plans; ensures that the gameplay department is positioned to achieve studio and project goals through internal, contract, and co-dev headcount.
  • Reviews milestone builds, user research studies, and milestone feedback to identify key development challenges in coordination with project and studio leadership.
  • Ensures that programmers participate in the studio’s collaborative engineering culture to find efficiencies across projects and maintain codebase quality over time.
  • Supports global initiatives within studio, PlayStation Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with partners at PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and external vendors.
  • Maintains a current awareness of technologies and processes throughout the game industry.
  • Ensures that all complaints and concerns related to inappropriate or unprofessional conduct in the workplace are addressed immediately to foster a safe work environment 
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises gameplay programming leads and directs studio department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Date reliability, measured by department progress toward milestone completion
  • Department efficiency, measured by the volume of relevant tasks and rework
  • Department morale, measured by survey data and manager assessment of sentiment

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and linear algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills: Expertise in an application programming language (C++ preferred). Some familiarity with a scripting language such as Python or JavaScript. Ability to understand and adhere to the prevalent coding style and practice. Understanding of procedural and object-oriented programming paradigms. Adaptive coding style. Visual Studio experience, JSON, and Maya experience a plus.  Ability to use common workplace software like Microsoft Office products.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Base pay is one component of our total compensation package. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location, as well as additional compensation components, such as annual bonus, profit sharing, and other incentive plans.
