Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory supports the organizations’ departments in providing a positive patient care experience for the patient population. The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory works collaboratively with the team members to ensure that the patient receives optimal outcomes. This may include direct patient care such as taking vitals, temperatures, injections, and other patient care duties. The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory ensures the patient’s laboratory tests are collected per physician’s request, tested appropriately and results are available within the electronic medical record per policy and guidelines. The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory
may be assigned to perform routine tests per CLIA approved guidelines and the Laboratory’s Medical Director’s approval using specialized laboratory instrumentation or point of care methods. This testing includes analyzing and interrupting the appropriate test processes, quality control, special studies, and other related testing requirements.
The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory monitors the test schedule to ensure appropriate timeliness of collection and results of samples are met to efficiently navigate the patient to other required modalities for patient care. The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory takes an active role in the accreditation process for the department as assigned, including, but not limited to, collating data for the application and reapplication process, collating required data for adherence to the accreditation standards, communicating with appropriate accreditation agencies and leadership as needed, departmental document control and providing additional training and approved competencies
to delegated staff. The Medical Assistant Specialist, Laboratory ensures an efficient workflow, adheres to required safety guidelines, ensures HIPAA privacy and that appropriate patient identifiers are in place to provide a safe and accurate testing environment.
Requirements:
Medical Assistant certificate/diploma (AAMA, AMT, or NCCT), LPN or RN, OR two years of Medical Assistant experience required.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
