Job Summary: This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies through the Modified Direct Hire Authority. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Major Duties:

  • At the WG-08 developmental duties, as assigned, to include the following:
  • You will use both traditional and modern rigging techniques to lift, move, and position equipment and materials.
  • You will safely handle, install and remove all materials and components requiring the use of weight handling equipment.
  • You will select and assemble weight handling gear used to lift, move and position heavy loads.
  • You will manufacture of wire rope and fiber rope products such as nets, ladders, pendants, falls, slings, hammocks, sword matting.
  • You will manufacture of leather and canvas covers.
  • You will assist in the prefabrication/fabrication of leather and canvas artifacts from the 18th and 19th century era.
  • You will assist senior Riggers in complex evolutions.
  • You will participate in sail training evolutions.
  • You will man assigned position during sailing events.
  • You will inspect mooring lines and chains and make corrections/repairs as necessary.
  • You will serve as a member of a rigging or lifting team.
  • You will use written and/or oral instructions to determine work sequences to be followed.
  • You will assist other trades, as assigned.

Qualifications: Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Rigger Worker as demonstrated by working under close supervision including using established rigging practices, working under the direction of a senior Rigger assembling, repairing, and installing weight handling gear and various standing and running rigging onto heavy loads for movement by crane or other mobile material handling equipment; signaling crane operators, using standard hand signals to assist with lifting operations; a general knowledge of mathematics; assisting senior Riggers in calculating weights, center of gravity, lifting capacities, angles of tension and breaking strength of rigging gear; determining measurements, volumes, weight of materials using assisting in mooring vessels, and/or line handling; performing rigging aboard or in direct support of sailing ships/sail powered vessels; working a member of a rigging/lifting team.
