Job Summary: Support and develop PLC, HMI, and Robotic software for control systems and equipment. Specifically, the Automation Engineer is responsible for programming, troubleshooting, optimizing, and implementing new automation solutions, as well as existing automation equipment. Knowledge of robot programming, control systems, and production automation are key elements of this position.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Engineering, or equivalent required
• Knowledge of robot programming such as Fanuc and Universal Robotics
• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), HMI’s, servo/motion systems

Essential Functions, Knowledge and Competencies

• Strong computer skills with a background in programming
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time (8-10 hours or more), frequent bending and twisting
• Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to resolve with automation/controls solutions
• Ability to develop training programs and to effectively communicate and train personnel
• The knowledge and ability to apply lean manufacturing principles and techniques
• Must have vision correctable to 20/20

Responsibility/Authority

• Provides technical expertise to program and maintain automation equipment and to optimize the utilization and efficiency of automation equipment
• Investigate and solve complex problems with automation solutions of new and/or existing equipment
• Support projects and leads activities related to process equipment installation and startup
• Supports the standardization of common processes and automation solutions
• Manage multiple project schedules while updating project documentation for updates to key leadership
• Develops automation training programs, maintenance schedules, and is the resident expert for automation/controls equipment
• Controls all program master files and maintains program standardization for automation projects
• Leads the effort to reduce setup times, establish standard operating procedures, and provide specialized training where required on automation projects
• Works with engineering to provide accurate setup time and cycle time estimates
