Job Description:Purpose of Your Position
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides compassionate, hands-on care to assigned residents, assisting them with activities of daily living and supporting their comfort, safety, and dignity. All care is provided in accordance with established nursing procedures, facility policies, and under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
🧾 Administrative Functions
Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, and charts accurately and descriptively.
Report changes in resident condition to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse promptly.
Report all accidents or incidents observed during the shift immediately.
👩⚕️ Personnel Functions
Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and as directed by supervisors.
Maintain a warm, calm, and caring environment that promotes resident well-being.
Demonstrate teamwork, respect, and professionalism in all interactions.
💙 Personal Nursing Care Functions
Receive and participate in the nursing report at the beginning and end of shifts.
Assist residents with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, oral care, hair care, and nail care.
Help residents with mobility, including transfers, walking, and positioning.
Assist with bowel and bladder functions and maintain cleanliness for incontinent residents.
Measure and record temperature, pulse, and respirations as directed.
Keep residents’ rooms neat, change linens, and make beds regularly.
Monitor residents unable to call for help and ensure frequent checks for comfort and safety.
Provide assistance and emotional support for residents nearing end of life.
Perform restorative and rehabilitative care as directed.
🩹 Special Nursing Care Functions
Observe and report early signs of pressure areas or skin breakdown to prevent ulcers.
Support nursing staff with preventive and therapeutic skin care procedures.
🍽️ Food Service Functions
Prepare residents for meals and assist with feeding as necessary.
Serve meal trays, snacks, and beverages in a timely and sanitary manner.
Ensure residents’ dietary needs and preferences are respected during meal service.
📘 Staff Development
Attend scheduled training sessions and educational programs to maintain CNA certification.
Participate in in-service training on infection control, safety, and resident care practices.
🧼 Safety and Sanitation
Keep resident areas and equipment clean and organized.
Maintain the nurse call system within easy reach of each resident.
Follow infection control procedures, especially when handling body fluids or medical equipment.
📋 Care Plan Functions
Review resident care plans and follow established routines accordingly.
Report any changes in condition to the Nurse Supervisor for plan updates.
Ensure daily notes reflect that care plans are being followed.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
Treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect at all times.
Knock before entering resident rooms and respect privacy.
⚙️ Working Conditions
Works throughout resident care areas including nursing stations, medication rooms, and resident rooms.
Requires sitting, standing, bending, and lifting throughout the workday.
May be exposed to infectious materials, odors, and emotionally challenging situations.
Interacts with residents, family members, and staff in varied emotional states.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when required.

Qualifications:Experience & Certification
Must hold a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in accordance with the laws of the State of Nebraska.
Previous experience in long-term care or skilled nursing preferred, but not required.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to make independent decisions when needed.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with residents, families, and staff.
Compassionate, patient, and respectful toward residents of all backgrounds.
Positive, team-oriented attitude with a cheerful and professional demeanor.
Willingness to learn, adapt, and incorporate new methods and principles into daily nursing practices.

Physical & Sensory Requirements

Must be able to assist residents in emergencies and evacuation situations.
Able to work effectively with residents who are ill, elderly, disabled, or emotionally distressed.
Must function independently while maintaining flexibility and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
