Title: HCC Coder
Location: San Diego - Hybrid. At least 1 meeting a month in person. 
Salary Range: $28.00 - $38.64 (Depending on experience
 
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior HCC Risk Adjustment Coding to join our team. This role is ideal for a certified professional coder with over 5 years of responsibilities in medical billing and coding, including more than 5 years of responsibilities in HCC risk adjustment and 4 years of leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in CMS risk adjustment models, chart auditing, team mentorship, and provider education, with a strong commitment to compliance and performance improvement.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee daily workflows and annual projects for the HCC Coding Department
  • Implement and optimize coding processes to improve HCC risk scores and ensure compliance
  • Provide strategic guidance and education to Providers on HCC documentation and capture
  • Conduct daily chart audits and data mining to identify coding gaps and opportunities
  • Monitor Optum and CMS reports to track performance and ensure accurate submissions • Mentor and train new HCC coders, fostering a culture of continuous learning
  • Collaborate with leadership to align coding strategies with organizational goals
  • Ensure adherence to all CMS risk adjustment documentation requirements
  • Support RADV audits and internal compliance reviews
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding processes for coding team members
Qualifications:
  • CPC Certification (AAPC) required
  • 5+ years of responsibilities in medical billing and coding
  • 5+ years of responsibilities in HCC risk adjustment coding
  • 4+ years of leadership responsibilities within a coding department
  • Proficient in ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Deep understanding of CMS risk adjustment models and reporting
