About the Department
The current vacancies are in the Social Services Department. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.
To assist social work staff in the maintenance of social service cases by assessing client needs, assisting in the development and implementation of service plans, recommending and obtaining services, gathering information necessary for social workers to assist clients in obtaining services that will provide living arrangements appropriate to the clients level of functioning; assisting clients with financial matters and seeking any financial support they may be eligible for; advocating for client as needed; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the advanced specialist level in this classification series. It differs from Case Aide primarily in that Case Aide Seniors are responsible for making subjective judgments about the type and level of service appropriate for client needs.)

Flexible Workplace
This position is identified under the designation of ‘flex work eligible’, meaning that the employee can formally opt to be in-office full-time or work a flex schedule in which at least two-days per week are performed in office and other days can be performed in a remote-first environment. Regardless of selection, the position carries expectations regarding on-site responsibilities and will require schedule flexibility beyond the minimum expectations set forth in the county’s flexible workplace policy. Position Duties
- Collects information to assist social worker in assessing clients' needs by interviewing clients, family, and other parties; reviewing relevant background information, physical and psychological reports; and observing client interactions with children under protective services in order to determine service needs.
- Assist the social worker to develop and recommend individual service plans for clients based on the results of assessments to include recommendations for residential programs, day programs and other appropriate services.
- Attend individual habilitation plan meetings in which clients' annual goals, and services needed to help meet these goals are determined.
- Identify appropriate community services and the availability of financial assistance required to implement individual service plans, initiate service application on behalf of clients and assist clients in pursuing requested services or financial assistance.
- Serve in a capacity of leadworker to other staff in purchase of service programs by resolving specific or unusual problems related to case files, and responds to urgent situations on caseloads in the absence of assigned case worker.
- Determine the likelihood and degree to which persons may be in danger of physical and/or mental harm and involve the primary social worker in order to protect the client.
- Assist social workers in writing and updating social histories and case status reports for documentation of service provision for the department, court reviews and other service providers; records observations of client behavior in order to assist social workers in monitoring case status; may provide feedback to clients regarding parenting skills in cases involving child protection supervised visits.
- Schedule, transport or arrange for transportation of clients to medical appointments, supervised visits, court hearings, placements and other service programs/facilities.
- Consult with departmental staff, other County departments and community services professionals to assist the primary social worker provide appropriate and timely services to the client; may maintain a limited caseload under the direction of social work staff.
- Assist clients and their families with problems relating to placements, transfers, evictions and other matters bearing upon client needs.
- Receive referrals from Financial Assistance Services Department and assists clients with financial applications or apply on their behalf.
- Determine need for and issues bus cards as appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention services including referrals to obtain emergency needs for housing, food, clothing or financial assistance.
- Schedule home and facility visits for clients who are unable to come to the office for interviews.
- Represent the unit or department on committee assignments for service provisions and recordkeeping methods.
- Maintain accurate case records and complete forms for documentation of eligibility, treatment cost reimbursement, service referrals, evaluation of client outcomes and general case management purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Seven years of experience including three years as a Case Aide and four years of clerical experience.
Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:

The examination for Case Aide Senior will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions – do not mark “see resume” or “see work history” as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.
Eligible List: The names of all applicants who have submitted a completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Case Aide Senior. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Applicants will remain on the list for 90 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted.
The names of all applicants who pass the examination with a score of 75 or higher will be forwarded to the department for further consideration.
Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.

Each case is considered on its individual merits and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred from employment, or removed from employment.
