POSITION OVERVIEW: Site Coordinator, Make It Happen Program - King Middle
Make It Happen is an academic support and college readiness program operated by the Multilingual and Multicultural Center at the secondary level to help language minority students develop strong study habits, leadership skills, civic engagement involvement, enrichment activities and prepare for high school success. Each of PPS secondary schools offers a Make It Happen program and a school site coordinator oversees the support and programming provided for students in the program. The MIH Site Coordinator is an integral part of a school’s culture and works closely with staff, students, and volunteers.
This position is for approximately 11 months per year, starting two weeks before the first student day and concluding two weeks after the last student day.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee operation of academic support programming in the Make It Happen Academic Center
- Manage volunteer academic tutors and partners
- Recruit and engage target multilingual students and monitor integrity of support and communication
- Conduct academic profile meetings with students to monitor academic and civic proliferation
- Provide comprehensive and individualized support to seniors with college and financial aid application process
- Engage target students in standardized test prep, leadership, community service, and professional development activities
- Promote and advocate for the enrollment of target students in competitive classes upon transition to high school
- Collaborate with internal and external partners in developing academic and civic profiles of students
- Collect data to produce summary mid-year and annual impact reports
- Monitor academic progress of all target students
- Establish and maintain communication with administration, teachers, guidance counselors, partners and parents regarding students
- Participate in department and staff meetings
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience
- Superb interpersonal skills and accessible disposition
- Ability to build rapport, exercise influence to motivate students to excel and impart high expectations
- Classroom management skills and the ability to create an ideal learning environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and executive skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Resilience, flexibility and a creative approach to problem-solving
- Ability to take initiative to identify and propose new tasks and procedures
- Working knowledge of Excel and Google applications

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS: - 11-month position
- Permanent
- Full Time, 1.0 FTE
- Salaried position, not eligible for overtime
- Covered under the SEC contract (see 2024-2025 CBA here)
- Salary based on experience, as outlined in CBA
