Job Description
Typical duties of the Shipping Clerk include receiving, verifying, and placement of
incoming materials. Staging finished goods in the warehouse and for outgoing shipments.
Complete required documentation; manage finish goods inventories and coordination of
transportation for deliveries (as needed).
Duties of Job:
• Examine shipment contents and compare with shipping documentation to verify
accuracy, condition, and temperature sensitive materials are acceptable and
document findings.
• Report material shortages or shipment problems to Supervisor or to Assistant
Facility Manger, in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Report shipping and receiving information on required paperwork.
• Move raw material and finished goods to and from storage or production areas,
and loading docks using material handling equipment.
• Maintain finished goods inventory in warehouse using a first-in, first out (FIFO)
system.
• Secure loads to prevent damage and shifting of product during transportation.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices.
• Answer phone calls and direct calls to appropriate parties or take messages.
• Perform general office duties, such as ordering supplies, and maintain office
files and documents.
• Open, sort, and distribute incoming correspondence, including faxes and email.
Process outgoing mail.
• Freight billing
• Invoicing
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years work experience in warehousing operations and/or the
shipping and receiving function.
• Proficiency with obtaining shipping rates and transportation logistics.
• Proficient with computers and computer software, including Microsoft Office
products.
• Knowledge of management information systems for enterprise resource
planning. (SAP desired)
• Knowledge of transportation industry, partial packaging logistics and
international shipping requirements desirable.
Possess knowledge of DOT shipping, OSHA, EPA regulations and how these
requirements apply to the shipping/receiving industry.
• Possess knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such
as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures
and terminology.
• Possess basic mathematical skills.
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess good organizational skills.
• Capable of becoming fork truck certified.
