Position Summary:
The Mason must have a proven history of craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail. This position will play a crucial role in building and repairing stone, brick, and concrete structures to the highest standard. Furthermore, you will be assisting project management with assessing the safety and viability of specific projects.
This is a hands-on role that will also involve restoration work, including grinding stone, patching, tuck-pointing, demolition, and occasional concrete work. Candidates must be willing and able to perform these tasks in addition to standard masonry duties.
This position requires the ability to work out of town, possess a valid driver’s license, and have reliable transportation. Candidates must also be willing to work Saturdays and be comfortable working at heights.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and calculate the materials required

Measure distances and mark guidelines on working surfaces to ensure accurate construction

Mix mortar and grout to the correct consistency for the application

Lay out patterns or foundations according to plans using straightedges and rules

Construct building frameworks including walls, floors, and chimney stacks by laying and binding bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry materials

Use hand tools such as trowels, hammers, chisels, and power tools to shape, trim, and dress the blocks or bricks
-
Repair and maintain masonry structures to ensure durability and longevity
-
Apply and smooth mortar or other mixture over work surface
-
Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and regulations
-
Erect scaffolding or other installation structures while ensuring compliance with legal and safety requirements
-
Inspect masonry structures to assess the need for repair or replacement
-
Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Ensure that all masonry work is performed to the highest standard in terms of quality and craftsmanship

Educate clients on maintenance of masonry structures and provide recommendations for preservation
-
Perform restoration-related tasks, including stone grinding, patching, tuck-pointing, demolition, and concrete work as needed
-

Qualifications
Qualifications, Skills, and/or Education Required
-
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in masonry or bricklaying
-
Proficiency in laying bricks, stones, and blocks in accordance with construction plans and blueprints
-
Knowledge of mixing and application of mortars and cement
-
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
-
Ability and willingness to travel and work out of town as needed
-
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
-
Ability to work Saturdays and at heights
Preferred Skills (not required):

Experience with masonry tools and equipment, including trowels, levels, power saws, mixers, and other hand and power tools

Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions

Keen eye for detail and ability to produce a high-quality finish

Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and inspection compliance
-
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical school certification in masonry is a plus

Good communication skills to collaborate with construction teams and clients

Commitment to safety protocols and procedures

Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
-
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
-
Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required by project deadlines

Willingness to undergo further training as needed
Ability to Travel, commute/relocate:

Must be able to travel locally within a reasonable distance from the main office and with reasonable notice from management.
Work Environment:
