Do you have a passion for protecting natural resources and ensuring environmental compliance? Collier County’s Solid Waste Division is looking for a Lead Environmental Specialist who’s ready to play a critical role in maintaining and monitoring the environmental integrity of the Collier County Landfill and Immokalee Transfer Station.
You’ll help safeguard our environment by ensuring regulatory compliance, overseeing key programs like the landfill’s deep injection well, and working closely with contractors, the public, and other departments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintain and monitor the deep injection well at the Collier County Landfill.
- Conduct site inspections and collect environmental samples (e.g., leachate, effluent, groundwater).
- Analyze environmental data and prepare clear, actionable reports and recommendations.
- Support the Solid Waste Division’s environmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee and evaluate contractor performance to ensure all operations are aligned with environmental regulations and contracts.
- Interpret complex environmental codes and regulations, offering guidance and enforcement as needed.
- Provide technical support and education to staff, contractors, and the public.
- Research regulatory requirements, track trends, and prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for internal and public stakeholders.
What You Bring to the Table
Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in an environmental-related field
- At least 3 years of related experience.
(If you don’t have a degree, 7 years of relevant experience will be considered.) - A valid Florida Driver’s License (or ability to obtain one).
Licenses & Certifications (May be required, depending on role-specific needs):
- OSHA Certified Hazardous Material Operations Certification
- FDEP Certified Tank Inspector
- Limited Lawn & Ornamental Pest Control Applicator’s License

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
