Referral Coordinator
Main Function:
To coordinate and schedule new patient appointments by phone and fax from referring physicians’ offices
Reports to:
Scheduling Supervisor
Job Duties:
- Provides initial contact for referring physicians’ offices to schedule new patient appointments
- Receives patient records via fax or email for review prior to scheduling appointment
- Put appointments on appointment book, notify patient and referring physician’s office of time and date
- Prepares patient paperwork and instructions
- Mails out new patient packets
- Answers phone calls and instant messaging regarding new patient appointments
Working Conditions:
- Controlled environment
- Some exposure to seriously ill patients
- Good attendance required
Emotional Factors:
Some stress involved in dealing with physicians and patients in a fast-paced environment while performing multiple tasks
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting for long periods of time in front of computers
- Requires good dexterity and range of motion
- Ability to use repetitive motion working on computers
Job Skills Required:
- Requires good communication skills
- Must be people friendly
- Must possess basic telecommunication skills, computer skills, and exhibit courtesy and patience
Education:
High school diploma or GED
