COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS MANAGER

DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI DEPARTMENT

 

 

The University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for the position of Communications & Events Manager in the Development and Alumni Department (DAD). This role leads the planning and delivery of communications and events to engage UCT alumni, donors, and supporters both locally and internationally.

 

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing, or any qualification in Humanities or Public Relations;
  • Ten years’ experience in communications and/or marketing, including five years’ managerial experience;
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in content creation across multiple channels;
  • Experience in project management and delivering high-profile events;
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Strong knowledge of branding and marketing strategies;
  • Content production and digital content curation (website and social media);
  • Excellent management, budgeting, planning and decision-making skills; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

 

Advantageous:

  • Experience in a higher education environment;
  • Understanding of South Africa’s media landscape and communication practices;
  • Branding experience; and
  • Assisting executives with speech writing and presentations.

 

Responsibilities:

                                                        

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to engage donors, alumni, and supporters.
  • Manage the creation of compelling content for fundraising campaigns, alumni engagement initiatives, and key institutional events.
  • Oversee and manage the Communications and Events Team, setting clear targets and providing professional development.
  • Plan and manage the annual alumni communications schedule, including newsletters, social media engagements, and publications.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of DAD events to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensure effective issues and reputation management through strategic communications with alumni and supporters.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with media outlets, agencies, and suppliers to enhance communications efforts.

 

The annual cost of employment for 2025, including benefits, is R 784 833 and R 923 330.
