Belstra Milling Company, a family-owned leader in DeMotte, Indiana currently seeking a full-time Safety Manager to lead and implement safety programs across our feed manufacturing operations, pig productions facilities and transportation fleet. Belstra is a trusted leader in the animal agriculture industry, providing high-quality feed, hog production expertise and transportation logistics. Our operations include modern feed mills, swine production farms, garden centers and a transportation fleet all working together to support animal health and sustainable feed production. This role is deeply rooted in agriculture, requiring an understanding of livestock production, agriculture equipment, and the safety challenges unique to an agriculture business. Experience in animal handling safety and feed mill operations is critical. We are looking for someone who can build a culture of safety that protects our people, animals and the community. Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following list):
- Work closely with personnel in operations and leadership
- Ensure safety equipment and supplies (e.g., first-aid kits/supplies, PPE) are readily available, maintained and in good condition at all locations
- Responsible for implementing and overseeing safety programs, ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
- Deliver engaging, hand-on safety tailored to farm and feed mill workers, including bilingual training. Collaborate closely with HR and recruiting for onboarding safety.
- Oversee and develop safety programs specific to hog production facilities including onsite inspections of barns
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Respond to accidents and lead investigations
- Experience and learn duties and activities involved with pig production, feed manufacturing, transportation and other areas of business
- Maintain various safety records
- Serve as a safety advocate and leader across all department and divisions
Requirements
Requirements:
- Adherence to farm bio-security measures and animal welfare
- Some evening or early morning work may be required for inspections or safety training.
- Role requires adaptability to environments with particulate matter, temperature changes and operational equipment
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Valid drivers’ license, as some regional travel in a company vehicle is required
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. or A.S. degree or certifications in occupational health and safety, animal science, ag, or related field preferred
- Use of Microsoft Office – PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- 2+ years of safety management experience in agriculture, livestock, manufacturing or a related field.
- Knowledge of OSHA and animal welfare standards ideal; including certification in OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid and CPR
- Strong organizational and communication skills; able to influence across all levels
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)-preferred, but not required
