We are committed to providing the very best work environment for our employees and the very best care to our patients. Samaritan Healthcare is seeking a Credentialing Specialist! The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist completes all aspects of the credentialing and privileging process for Medical Staff members, prepares and supports a variety of Medical Staff meetings, and provides support to the Medical Staff Services Department and Medical Staff Leaders. After training is completed, this position may have the option of being remote. 

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • At the direction of the Medical Staff Supervisor, completes all aspects of the privileging and credentialing process for Medical Staff providers. Processes applications, verifies information, researches application details, and assures process is completed in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides administrative support to the Medical Staff Services Department, including but not limited to, phone coverage, correspondence, special projects, mail handling, and ordering of departmental supplies. 
  • Provides support to the Medical Staff Supervisor, Medical Staff Officers, and Committee Chairpersons to assure compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Maintains current provider credentialing files by verifying and updating licensure status, certification status, DEA status, and malpractice coverage in accordance with the Medical Staff bylaws and regulatory compliance. 
  • Responds to verification requests from other facilities.
  • Compiles and generates Medical Staff reports, as requested and when applicable.
  • Works with the Quality Department to create quality reports.
  • Processes medical student requests for clinical rotations.
  • Assists with candidate screens, recruitment tours and new provider Medical Staff orientation. 
  • At the direction of the Medical Staff Supervisor, develops Medical Staff committee agendas, prepares and distributes packets, attends meetings, composes minutes, follows through with appropriate actions and correspondence, and documents/tracks provider attendance.   
  • Archives credentialing files.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Post-secondary education in secretarial field or related business field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Three (3) or more years of experience in a Medical Staff office preferred.
  • Skills/Competencies:
    • Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
    • Excellent Internet knowledge, word processing, and database management to include knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Credentialing software systems.
    • Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
    • Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
    • Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, along with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity.

Physical Requirements 

  • Occasional standing, walking, lifting (minimum 10 lbs.), reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  • Good reading eyesight.
  • Prolonged sitting at a desk or computer station.
  • Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
