At our Cascades Bear Island facility in Ashland, VA you can develop your full potential by applying your expertise within the Packaging sector as General Manager.  As a strategic leader at our newest state-of-the-art paper mill, your core mandate will be to oversee all aspects of the unit’s operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and long-term business sustainability. 

 

You will be at the helm of one of our key manufacturing units - shaping strategy, driving performance, and empowering your teams to deliver excellence. Your role will be central to maximizing the efficiency, quality, and profitability of our operations while fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

 

  • Ensure optimal execution of strategic operation plan developed in collaboration with the Vice-President of Operations by delivering on KPIs related to safety, production and delivery performance, cost optimization, and quality in accordance with business rules and best practices

  • Establish and track operational benchmarks (quality, efficiency and availability) in close collaboration with the VP of Operations to ensure optimal production performance

  • Align production strategies with commercial, planning, and distribution partners to deliver seamless operational execution and customer satisfaction

  • Manage and optimize the unit’s CAPEX & OPEX budget, ensuring responsible investment in equipment and infrastructure with strong and rapid ROI

  • Lead weekly business meetings with your team to track KPIs, resolve challenges, and align on action plans

  • Act as a mentor and coach to a high-performing operations team—ensuring the right people are in the right roles with the appropriate tools and support to succeed

  • Embed a mindset of operational excellence by promoting Lean principles, innovation, and sustainable best practices across the plant

  • Collaborate with unit and sector HR leaders to ensure alignment with broader business objectives and workforce planning

You too, put forward your strengths: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a degree

  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale manufacturing operations with direct accountability for business results

  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing a business, and deep capability in budgeting and financial performance analysis

  • Inspiring leadership and a collaborative mindset that motivates teams toward shared goals and excellence

  • Proven ability to navigate complex challenges with sound judgment, adaptability, and a solution-oriented mindset with a focus on impactful execution aligned with company priorities

  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to drive alignment and results across diverse stakeholders while positioning oneself with conviction in a difficult context

  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is considered a strong asset

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams with tact and diplomacy
