Manager of Community Engagement, Partnerships and Anti-Black Racism (ABR) Initiatives



Summary

This position is an intricate part of the organization working in collaboration with Service Delivery and Marketing team to optimize and develop new community partnerships, build effectiveness and innovation in the community engagement department and lead ABR initiatives for the whole organization that will improve our service within our agency and the Black community.



Key Responsibilities

Manager of Community Engagment, Partnerships and Anti-Black Racism (ABR) Initiatives will have two main areas of responsibility. See roles and responsibilities of each below: Manager of Community Partnerships and ABR Initiatives.



Manager of Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Create inquiry process and oversee the Community Engagement (CE) inquiry progress
  • Train and Support CE team members on file /contact management of inquiries on SD programs
  • Re-assign contacts to the appropriate community engagement worker Bridge communication between the Enrollment/ Assessment (EA) team and CE team regarding incoming inquiries
  • Keep the CE team accountable for their monthly targets and communication attempts.
  • Manage the CE Team and have one on one check in meetings with each CE staff members to ensure coaching and training is being delivered on a regular basis.
  • Complete goals and assessments of each CE Team member and oversee the employees’ performance management.
  • Assess the effectiveness of inquiry process and propose ideas to improve results in the inquiries converting to applications.
  • Schedule staff facilitation of the Bigs 101 Information session twice a month.
  • Maintain and revise the Bigs 101 information session as needed. Establish and maintain Partnerships with: Local grass roots community organizations / Any institutions where we can establish presence and amplify our impact
  • Lead the CE team in their recruitment efforts (volunteers and clients).
  • Develop a strategy for recruitment events and partnership development to maintain focus on recruitment and building relationship with community partners.
  • Develop and implement innovative ways to engage our alumni
  • Developing relationships with organizations to develop volunteer pipelines.
  • Work with Marketing to ensure materials are on brand and are relevant for the target audience
  • Other duties as assigned



ABR Initiatives

  • Lead the development of an ABR committee
  • Conduct Monthly ABR committee meetings, including sub-committee as follows:  1) Human Resource collaboration, which includes providing consultation on policies and process to ensure an ABR lens is practiced and implemented in both internal operations and external service delivery at BBBST. 2) Supporting Curriculum development for programs (providing insights and alternative ways of addressing ABR).  3) Conduct research (connecting with the youth and volunteers at BBBST and seeing what is missing to support them). 4) ABR focused community engagement (being present in predominantly Black communities, and building connections with community partners)
  • Using an ABR framework, to assist the BBBST staff in designing and delivering programs that address the fundamental and foundational elements of ABR.
  • Collaborate with human resources to provide all staff with progressive educational training of ABR (i.e., History of ABR, systemic ABR, cultural appropriation, and inclusive language for Black communities, Allyship with Black communities, colonialism, and intersectional topics with a focus on Black identity).
  • Liaise with all levels of staff, external organizations, Black community advocates and leaders, and volunteers and families.
  • Collaborate with other BBBST committees on the delivery of intersectional programming, including topics such as Afro-Indigenous community building, Queerness and Blackness



The role is expected to:
- Advocate for families to other community services when necessary
- Abide by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada National Standards and Child Safety standards throughout all functions
- Share with Fund Development and/or Marketing staff potential partnership and stewardship opportunities as discovered through volunteers, parents and community
- Attend regularly scheduled meeting with agency Stewards.

- Attend agency events, as needed and perform other duties as assigned by agency stewards

- Maintain strict Confidentiality and adhere to the Privacy Statement as set out in the BBBST Policies and Procedures



Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (education, social services, child and youth work, family studies, etc.) with equivalent experience in the field is required.
  • Master’s degree in a related field is considered an asset.
  • 2-5 years' experience working with children and youth is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Awareness of diversity issues and the strength-based approach is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills reflecting solid customer service
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse setting is an asset
  • Strong organizational skills, a capacity to multitask and to motivate others
  • Proven experience in team development, and achieving high performance levels Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weeknights and some weekends as required
  • Successful police vulnerable sector clearance
