Duties and Responsibilities:
Durham College seeks a proven leader to lead itsteam of dynamic professionals in the Office of Campus Safety. Reporting to theDirector, Campus Safety, the Manager of Emergency Management will beresponsible for the overall planning and development of the College emergencymanagement and recovery framework, in keeping with industry standards thatadvance prevention, mitigation, response and recovery elements of emergencymanagement. Within this context, the position, in close coordination withCollege committee structures, is responsible for the development andimplementation of the College emergency management plan and supportinginfrastructure as well as the coordination of supporting departmental responseplans.
The incumbent provides guidance and input inCollege departments and process related to the development of prevention andmitigation measures and actively contributes to business continuity planningprocesses. The position plays an active role with the Emergency ManagementResponse Team (EMRT), the emergency operations centre (EOC), and the EmergencyMass Communication Tool (EMCT) with respect to response to campus emergencies.
In addition, the Manager, Emergency Managementplans, develops, and implements training, awareness and exercise activities atall levels within the College community to continually improve corporate,student and staff preparedness.
The Manager, Emergency Management is responsiblefor the oversight and operation of the Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT).The incumbent will develop procedures and documentation in support of the CERTframework. The manager will provide guidance for a team of volunteers, andsupport ongoing training and development for the CERT team.
Please note, this position services both DurhamCollege and Ontario Tech University.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a 4-year undergraduate degree in Emergency Management or a related field; a Master’s degree would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of 5-years of related experience in a planning and policy role with similar organizational scope, previous specialized service in emergency response/emergency management, and experience managing complex objectives with multi-disciplinary components. Additional certifications or training in business continuity planning, risk management, emergency planning, emergency preparedness and/or first responder would be considered assets to this role.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
- The ideal candidate will understand Emergency Management principles consistent with municipal, provincial and federal standards.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills, the incumbent shall possess demonstrated tact, diplomacy and the ability to work effectively in crisis situations. Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills, and a proven ability to work well with clients and colleagues are essential.
- Experience with Alertus® systems is an asset. Experience in the education sector is also considered an asset. Experience in emergency medical services is an asset.
- The incumbent is required to work on campus with on-call availability required.
