If working in a role where you get to see the fruits of your teaching, then perhaps you should consider Offender Learning as a career path. Below is the feedback from an ex-prisoner on how education changed their life – Could you be the next life changing Tutor?

“I made the decision that I needed to make a change in my life and to do that it would mean that I needed to learn. I had always had lots of interests but education was never one of them. As the teachers helped me to build my self-confidence and self-esteem I came to realise that I actually enjoyed learning. People saying well done and praising me, that inspired me to say I enjoyed education and it was a positive thing. I saw that learning could help me achieve new things and change my life for the better and that it could be the key to set me free. Education has impacted on my life in many ways: my family has noticed the change in the way I talk, I have a healthier relationship with my kids and can now even read them bed time stories. Before I went to prison I could barely read and write more than a few words. Learning how to read and write was the greatest accomplishment of my life. It has given me the tools I needed to reshape my future. I was reminded of the old saying, 'It's not how hard you fall; it's how quickly you pick yourself up!' I am thankful for the unique opportunity I was provided with in prison to gain an education. Not only has it changed not only my life, but also my children's.”
