To support the operation of wood recycling sites across the UK by operating heavy machinery and performing general site duties. The role is national in scope, requiring regular travel to different sites and flexibility to stay away from home, often at short notice, depending on business requirements.

Working Pattern: Monday to Fridays

Key Responsibilities

1. Machinery Operation:
  • Operate various plant and site machinery, including:
     Loading shovels, 360 excavators, telehandlers, forklifts, shredders & screeners
  • Conduct daily machinery checks and report any faults or defects.
  • Load, move, and manage wood materials safely and efficiently.
2. Site Support:
  • Carry out material handling and assist with wood sorting, processing, and quality checks.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, safety standards, and stock organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with site teams and provide operational support where needed.
3. Travel & Flexibility:
  • Travel extensively across national sites as required by the business.
  • Be prepared for frequent overnight stays and occasional weekend work, often at short notice.
  • Represent the company professionally while working on client or third-party sites.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance:
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies.
  • Follow all site-specific safety rules, risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability.
5. Maintenance & Reporting:
  • Assist in basic maintenance of plant equipment and report faults promptly.
  • Complete relevant logs, checklists, and site reports accurately and on time.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential
  • Experience in machinery operation
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proven experience operating heavy plant machinery.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety in a recycling or industrial setting.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly and stay away from home overnight.
Desirable
  • Prior experience in the wood recycling or waste management industry.
  • First aid or fire marshal training.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and waste handling procedures.

  • Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor, hands-on roles in all weather conditions.

Note: This is a mobile role and may involve extended travel and multiple nights away from home in line with operational needs. Accommodation, travel expenses, and subsistence will be covered in accordance with the company’s travel policy.
