Job Description:

Job Description – External :

We are seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator with proven expertise in enterprise-grade Oracle databases and modern Azure data ecosystems. This is a critical technical role responsible for database design, administration, performance tuning, and operational excellence across both traditional and cloud data environments. You will play a key part in integrating Oracle with next-generation platforms such as Azure Data Bricks and Azure Data Lake, driving secure, scalable, and business-critical data solutions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Database Administration & Operations
    • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Oracle Database (19c and above), Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL instances.
    • Ensure high availability, recoverability, and integrity of databases across cloud and on-prem environments.
    • Develop and maintain robust backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and failover strategies.
    • Manage storage, tablespaces, data files, and optimize database growth and disk utilization.
    • Implement strong database security, user access controls, encryption, and compliance policies.
  • Performance, Tuning & Automation
    • Conduct performance analysis and tuning: SQL optimization, index management, and query rewriting.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues using Oracle Enterprise Manager and related tools.
    • Design and automate routine DBA tasks using Unix/Linux shell scripting or Python.
  • Azure Data Platform Integration
    • Integrate and migrate Oracle data to Azure Data Lake and Azure Data Bricks using best practices.
    • Collaborate with data engineering teams to enable seamless data movement (ETL/ELT pipelines) between Oracle, Data Lake, and Data Bricks environments.
    • Support and optimize the use of Azure Synapse Analytics for advanced analytics workloads.
    • Set up and manage data ingestion, transformation, and integration workflows using Azure Data Factory.
  • Project Leadership & Collaboration
    • Provide subject matter expertise and consultation for application teams on Oracle and Azure data integration.
    • Document database architectures, procedures, and best practices.
    • Participate in solution architecture reviews, capacity planning, and new technology evaluations.
    • Collaborate closely with cloud architects, data engineers, and security/compliance teams on strategic projects.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Stay updated on the latest Oracle features, Azure cloud advancements, and industry best practices.
    • Recommend and implement improvements for automation, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
    • Mentor and coach junior team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 10 years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience in large-scale, mission-critical environments.
    • Demonstrable experience with Azure Data Bricks, Azure Data Lake, and cloud-based data workflows.
    • Proven track record with Linux/Unix environments and automation scripting (Shell, Python, or PowerShell).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of Oracle Database (12c, 19c, or later), including backup, recovery, tuning, and security.
    • Proficiency with PostgreSQL and multi-platform DBMS support.
    • Experience with Azure Data Bricks (Spark), Azure Data Lake (Gen2), and Azure Synapse Analytics.
    • ETL/ELT pipeline development using Azure Data Factory or similar tools.
    • Hands-on skills in database migration (on-prem to cloud), replication, and high-availability solutions (RAC, Data Guard, etc.).
    • Familiarity with cloud security, compliance, and governance (Azure RBAC, encryption, etc.).
  • Other Key Skills:
    • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
    • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration abilities.
    • Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments.
    • Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and integration patterns.

Preferred/Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (Cosmos DB, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates).
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines or analytics workloads on Azure.
  • Working knowledge of data governance and data cataloging (Azure Purview).
