Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As the Materials Innovation Research and Testing Specialist on the Advanced Concepts (AC) team, you research, scout, test, and develop novel material technologies across all Arc'teryx product divisions. Your in-depth expertise, industry knowledge and deep curiosity for exploration enable the development of material innovations and Intellectual Property (IP) across the Arc'teryx Advanced Concepts' roadmap. This role, in collaboration with the AC Materials Research Scientist, is also vital to improve the testing lab's operational excellence, systems, and support capabilities in validating material properties for AC projects.
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed onsite. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

If you were a Materials Innovation Research and Testing Specialist now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

- Researching early-stage and emerging material technologies, while maintaining a detailed understanding of the commercially available (and competitor) landscape
- Developing and commercializing best-in-class materials/trims that address functional problems, durability, performance and circularity
- Supporting material approval and commercialization (SAP PLM - Centric) for key Advanced Concepts projects and initiatives
- Supporting testing and validation of material performance characteristics for key Advanced Concepts projects and initiatives
- Collaborating with key materials testing lab users to oversee and improve operational management of the lab space
- Revamping and centralizing data storage, test logs, data analysis and communication
- Supporting the AC materials Research Scientist in the creation of new and bespoke test methods to feed physiological/simulation models, better simulate real-world use and materials longevity
- Collaborating with the AC machine workshop to create custom tooling and parts for the materials testing lab
- Working closely with the Performance Validation Manager, the Mountain Athlete lab and the Product testing specialist to create holistic test plans for our materials and products
- Collaborating with the Quality team and Raw Materials team to integrate new custom testing standards into the materials development validation process
- Partnering with the Innovation Management team and external partners to collect, curate, and collate necessary documentation for SR&ED reporting and other funding mechanisms
- Contributing to the integration and technology transfer process between AC innovation pipeline and inline I2C/GTM calendar milestones
- Establishing and maintaining a robust Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio, proprietary solutions and exclusivity on materials projects in partnership with the Legal team
Are you our next Materials Innovation Research and Testing Specialist?
- You have a degree in textile engineering, materials science, a related technical field or equivalent applied professional experience
- You have 5+ years’ experience in product or material/trim development for the apparel, footwear, sporting goods, or equipment industry - creating proprietary, exclusive, and bespoke material technologies for a commercial brand
- You have a strong understanding of the product creation process, supply chain, and you have a specialization in validating or verifying material specifications and requirements for specific applications
- You have project management experience, including planning, process optimization, efficient communication and cross-functional coordination
- You have experience using PLM, ERP or other product/BOM creation systems (such as Centric, ENOVIA, SAP, etc.) and the Microsoft Office suite
- You have experience travelling and working directly with mills/suppliers, material fabricators, technology providers and factories in global locations domestically and overseas
- You have an extensive knowledge of the scientific method, design of experiments, and statistics
- You have previous materials laboratory testing experience and/or extensive knowledge of relevant testing methods and standards
- You have experience initiating and integrating new partnerships from outside of an established supply chain, or even outside of the industry
- You are a problem-solver with a high degree of self-drive and optimism
- You are able to explain complex concepts to a wide audience
- You are an effective and empathetic communicator
- You are detail-oriented and follow-through on commitments to do what is right, and you strive for continuous improvement
- You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$82,000 - CAD$103,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates with demonstrated expertise that is above job requirements or who bring exceptional directly transferable experience.
