We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our small, high-impact platform team.
You’ll work directly with the Senior Platform Engineer and agency partners to build and scale our serverless AI platform, the technology backbone that powers our growing network of insurance agencies.
Equal Parts is rebuilding insurance from the ground up using AI, automation, and modern infrastructure to amplify what actually drives the industry: relationships, trust, and operational excellence.
This role is for someone who wants to move fast, architect with purpose, and ship infrastructure that materially changes how agencies operate. If you love ownership, greenfield product work, and using modern technology to deliver robust, high-performance systems, this is the role.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain serverless backend systems using Python on AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Step Functions)
- Build infrastructure for AI agents that automate document processing, data extraction, and workflow orchestration
- Implement event-driven architectures and patterns
- Design and optimize DynamoDB data models and access patterns
- Integrate with external systems including insurance platforms, CRMs, and document processing services
- Partner closely with frontend engineers to ship end-to-end features
- Write comprehensive automated tests, including integration tests
Requirements
- 3+ years of backend engineering experience with Python
- Strong experience with AWS serverless services (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge)
- Comfort working with Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK)
- Proven track record of collaborating closely with frontend engineers to deliver features
Tech Stack
- Language: Python
- Cloud: AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3, SES, OpenSearch, Cognito)
- Infrastructure: Pulumi
- Tooling: UV, Ruff, ty (type checker), pytest
Nice to Haves
- Experience working with AI agents and Anthropic Claude
- Familiarity with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Logfire, or Grafana
- Background in insurance, fintech, or other regulated industries
