About Your Team
This role is about product, people and process.
Our team is growing, and we’re looking for a versatile Engineering Manager – Claims (m/f/d) to lead and empower our cross-functional Claims Squad.
As an InsurTech provider, the claims settlement process sits at the heart of our customer experience. This role is strategically critical: you will help build the technical foundation that makes claims processing fast, transparent, and delightful for customers and internal stakeholders alike. You will guide engineering efforts across frontend, backend, automation, and AI tooling, ensuring that our technical architecture scales and supports the broader product and operations vision.
Success in this role requires a strong blend of technical, people, and stakeholder skills. You can define and communicate the bigger picture across a diverse tech stack, strike the right balance between giving direction and fostering growth within your team, and stay close to the business domain by collaborating deeply with stakeholders. The best candidates naturally drive technology and teams with a product mindset.
Your responsibilities:
- Oversee and evolve the technical architecture for claims automation and adjacent domains.
- Ensure long-term architectural alignment with product and business direction.
- Build scalable automation capabilities by leveraging classic software engineering, low-code approaches, and AI.
- Empower your own and adjacent teams to deliver a stellar customer experience.
- Foster data-driven decision-making within your core team of 5 and across the business domain.
- Nurture deep domain expertise within your team and promote a shared, ubiquitous language.
- Establish a mindset of ownership and excellence across all aspects of your team’s work.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across product, operations, platform, and data.
- Align technical goals with product and business stakeholders, and support your team in delivering successfully on cross-cutting initiatives.
About you:
- You care deeply about product, people, and process, and bring a natural drive for excellence to all three.
- You lead with empathy, providing the right balance of guidance and autonomy to help your teammates grow while delivering remarkable customer experience.
- You know that achievement follows passion and can consistently instill a positive, motivated mindset in your team.
- You optimize for flow and help your team build continuous improvement into their everyday work.
- You’re drawn to complex domains and love working with teams that turn intricate logic into clear, understandable code.
- You understand that legacy code powers the current business, yet limits future potential, and you can define a path forward that enables new opportunities.
- You are technically versatile and comfortable using a wide range of tools to realize your technical vision.
Essentials:
- 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor in software engineering with hands-on exposure to backend and cloud technologies.
- 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience forming and guiding high-performing cross-functional product teams.
- Strong analytical and architectural skills, especially in software design, distributed systems, and cloud computing.
- Hands-on experience with multiple programming languages, ideally covering multiple OOP and FP paradigms.
- Experience owning production systems and establishing a strong “you build it, you run it” mindset within your team.
- Experience transforming technical foundations in a dynamic scale-up environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Experience working in industries with complex domains and processes, such as FinTech, InsurTech, or Health.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Extra:
- Experience building AI / ML powered applications.
- Experience in process automation architecture.
