Job Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for opening and closing the museum for public hours; facilitates the museum visitor experience by providing information and monitoring galleries; assists in the supervision of student staff members; provides support at special events; assists with the installation of artwork and exhibitions; performs other duties as assigned.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities (May include any and/or all of the following):
Gallery Operations — Oversees public galleries during museum’s public hours, including but not limited to, opening and closing museum, including the arming and disarming of alarm systems; greeting museum visitors and providing orientation and information; and monitoring visitor movement and comportment in the galleries. Supervision — Assists in the supervision of student staff members, especially when full-time staff members are not present. Office Support — Assists with duties such as answering phones, especially when full-time staff members are not present. Special Events — Provides support at special events such as receptions, lectures, and performances. Exhibition Preparation — Assists with tasks related to the installation and deinstallation of artwork and exhibitions. Performs other duties as assigned. Primary scheduled hours: Saturday and/or Sunday, 11am – 4 pm

- Skills and ability to interact with visitors of many ages, cultural backgrounds, educational levels
- Ability to retain information about artwork and exhibitions, and to relate that information to visitors in engaging and appropriate ways
- Respect for and curiosity about art, and about religious and spiritual traditions
- Demonstrated history of responsibility, reliability, and skill in exercising discretion and judgment
- Ability to work creatively, both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to handle and install art or to learn such skills
- Computer use competency
Minimum qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with college coursework in a related field; demonstrated history of responsibility and reliability; strong communications skills and ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Preferred qualifications
B.A. in art or art history. Prior experience working in a gallery or museum setting and/or experience in art history or art interpretation. Supervisory experience.
