Summary of Duties:

WSU Tri Cities Department of Academic & Student Affairs is now accepting applications for a Benefits Navigator. As the Benefits Navigator, you will serve as a single point of contact and liaison for students who seek or are eligible for public and institutional resources including, but not limited to: public benefits, emergency assistance grants, housing supports, and food pantry items. You will examine barriers to addressing these fundamental needs and provide intake, referrals, and support in accessing resources at the university level or with local, regional, and state/federal community partners.

You will work to enhance collaborations with community partners and increase resources for WSU Tri Cities to support students with limited resources or lower incomes. The Benefits Navigator position is funded by a 2-year state allocation and continuation of the position is dependent upon ongoing program funding by Washington State.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.

  • Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with modern office technologies, such as the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Attention to detail, organized, and able to meet deadlines.

  • Experience working with diverse faculty, students, staff, and/or community members.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to problem solve and work independently.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of coordinating student services and/or basic needs programs.

  • One or more years of experience advising/counseling students in a higher education setting or equivalent.

  • Familiarity with Washington State University policies and procedures.

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

This is an in-person/on-site position located in Richland, WA.

This position is funded by a 2-year state allocation and continuation of the position is dependent upon ongoing program funding by Washington State. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.


Monthly Salary: $4,050.92 - $4,660.47 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
