SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking experienced, certified Sterile Processing Technician to upcoming work full time to help support operations at the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.

This position is scheduled to start January 1, 2026.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

The Pay for this position will be $30.02/hr with an additional $5.09/hr in Health & Welfare. The benefits include 11 paid federal holidays per year, and 56 hours of annual accrued Sick Leave (equivalent to 7 paid days off).

The Sterile Processing Technician must possess One these key qualifications to be eligible for this job:

  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or higher by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM/HSPA).
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized CRCST training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work in the field.
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized Operating Room Technician training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Graduation from a US military training program for Surgical Technicians with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • VA Level 2 certification with a minimum of 2 years of current work experience in the SPS environment.
  • Non-Certified technicians with documented and verifiable SPS hands-on work experience for a minimum of 5 years.

Responsibilities include the following areas:

Decontamination Area:

  • Operate all decontamination equipment in special area receiving “soiled” and contaminated material.
  • Identify, decontaminate, and systematically segregate reusable items for preparation, reprocessing and redistribution.
  • Identify and receive contaminated surgical instruments, trays, endoscopes, powered drills, and saws, from all areas in the medical center while prioritizing instruments required for surgical procedures in the Operating Room.  
  • Select proper methods, based on manufacturer’s instructions for use (MIFU), for cleaning and disinfecting all RMDs.
  • Responsible for the inspection, disassembly, cleaning, and routine maintenance of sophisticated surgical devices such as bronchoscopes, sigmoidoscopes, cystoscopes, laparoscopic cameras, drills, saws, reamers, and a wide variety of lumen devices.
  • Follow and adhere to department High Risk Protocols (HRPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer's guidelines.

Preparation and Assembly Area:

  • Receive from decontamination area all RMD requiring assembly into packs, instrument sets, and a wide variety of other components for surgery and other treatment areas.
  • Inspect instruments for proper functioning, scissors for sharpness, box locks for tightness, towel clamps and hemostats for proper functioning jaws, rough edges on ring handles, jaws, ratchets, and shanks (burrs or nicks). Inspect for cleanliness and corrosion.
  • Properly and safely load, operate and troubleshoot a variety of sterilizers including but not limited to steam, hydrogen peroxide plasma (VPro, STERRAD) and ethylene oxide (EtO).

High Level Disinfection Area (HLD):

  • Always wear proper protective apparel and equipment.
  • Properly transport all items for HLD process before and after processing.
  • Inspect items for HLD process, and process following department High Risk Protocols (HRPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer's guidelines for reprocessing.
  • Perform all functions of the HLD process including documentation and quality assurance procedures.
  • Properly and safely load and operate the automated endoscope reprocessors and other HLD equipment (e.g., TD 100, Trophon) as needed.

Qualifications:

  • In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is a requirement for this position.
  • Must meet 1 of the requirements that were listed above.
  • Must carry at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to stand during the entire workday with frequent bending and lifting of supply packages weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
