Compliance Specialist - Plants Wansley
JOB SUMMARY
The Compliance Specialist will support Plant Wansley’s environmental, industrial hygiene, demolition and ash pond closure programs. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the facility to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. They will interface with corporate environmental affairs, industrial hygiene, site co-owners, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and appropriate notification in incidents of non-compliance. They will recognize safety, health, and environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively address them. The successful candidate will model Our Values and lead by example in safety and compliance. The compliance specialist will coordinate with other specialists and SMEs across the fleet to share best practice to enhance the expertise of all specialists.
The successful candidate will be responsible for programs including NPDES, waste, Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), Industrial Hygiene (IH), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA), and Safe Dams. They will conduct self-assessments, program audits, and compliance training.
This position requires on-call duty rotation for nights and weekends and is subject to call out.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience required
- Previous power plant experience desired
- Demonstrated knowledge of waste, CCR management, or ash pond closure desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a group setting is required.
- Effective oral and written communications skills required.
- In depth knowledge of waste management desired.
- Demonstrated experience in Maximo or Enablon is a plus.
- Experience conducting self-assessments/self-audits is a plus.
- Current certifications such as Level 1A erosion/sedimentation inspector, Method 9 visual emissions, Safe Dams inspection training is a plus.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products is required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively across organizations

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate Safety as a core value in daily actions.
- Ensure compliance with all permits and regulations by monitoring various parameters and interfacing with plant personnel and contractors.
- Provide oversight for the plant's air, water (NPDES, Industrial Stormwater, Surface Water Withdrawal and dredging), CCR, Safe Dams, SPCC, industrial hygiene programs, etc. as assigned.
- Conduct inspections and walkdowns as required
- Conduct storm water monitoring and inspection of erosion/sedimentation BMPs as required.
- Investigate compliance related incidents and ensure notification of appropriate regulatory agencies, if required.
- Perform self-assessments on plant environmental programs and develop strategies and procedures to maintain compliance
- Perform program specific environmental sampling and analysis as required to ensure compliance.
- Deliver presentations to internal and external groups concerning various environmental and compliance programs.
- Train plant personnel on compliance related issues
- Document and maintain records to verify compliance
- Track and complete Enablon task for assigned programs
- Support community outreach programs.
