This position is a Sunday - Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. role.
About the Role:
The Patient Financial Services Representative plays a critical role in ensuring the financial aspects of patient care are managed efficiently and accurately within the healthcare setting. This position is responsible for assisting patients with billing inquiries, insurance verification, and payment processing to facilitate a smooth financial experience. The representative acts as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve billing issues and clarify financial responsibilities. By maintaining detailed records and providing clear communication, this role helps to optimize revenue cycle management and enhance patient satisfaction. Ultimately, the Patient Financial Services Representative contributes to the financial health of the organization while supporting patients through often complex billing processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare financial services or billing environment is required.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Strong understanding of medical insurance terminology and billing procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- If recovering, 2 years of continuous, verifiable abstinence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., Certified Professional Biller) is advantageous.
- Experience working with multiple insurance providers and familiarity with Medicaid and Medicare billing.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations such as HIPAA.
- Ability to handle complex billing scenarios and negotiate payment arrangements.
- Bilingual skills to assist a diverse patient population.
Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly and professionally to patient inquiries regarding billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Verify patient insurance information and eligibility prior to services being rendered to ensure accurate billing.
- Process payments, set up payment plans, and document all financial transactions in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve discrepancies and denials related to patient accounts.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient financial records and assist in preparing reports related to patient accounts receivable.
