About the Job
Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Surgical Sterilization Assistant to join our team. This is a
vital role in supporting the efficiency and safety of the surgical department. You will be responsible for ensuring the proper cleaning, sterilization, organization, and readiness of all surgical instruments, packs, and operating suites. The Surgical Sterilization Assistant also functions as the operating room (OR) runner, maintaining smooth surgical flow and assisting the surgical team by anticipating and responding to intraoperative needs.

Responsibilities
• Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and packs according to established hospital protocols and infection control standards.
• Inspect instruments for damage or wear and report necessary repairs or replacements.
• Maintain detailed logs of sterilization cycles and equipment maintenance.
• Prepare surgical suites for procedures, ensuring all instruments, drapes, and equipment are properly set up.
• Maintain aseptic technique during setup and cleaning processes.
• Turn over operating rooms efficiently between cases, including waste disposal, table cleaning, and linen replacement.
• Monitor and restock surgical supplies, ensuring all materials are available and within expiration date.
• Ensure smooth communication and supply flow between the sterile and non-sterile areas.
• Retrieve additional equipment or medications during procedures as requested by the surgical team.
• Assist with patient transport to and from the surgical area as needed.
• Support the surgical team with pre- and post-operative room setup and clean-up.
• Operate and maintain autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and other sterilization equipment safely and efficiently.
• Follow all biohazard, OSHA, and hospital safety protocols.
• Report malfunctioning equipment or supply shortages promptly.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical and nursing teams to prioritize cases and maintain flow throughout the day.
• Support a culture of cleanliness, organization, and teamwork within the surgical department.
• Participate in ongoing training and quality improvement initiatives related to surgical services.

Skills & Qualifications
• Previous experience in a veterinary or medical surgical environmental preferred
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment with attention to detail
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with surgical and nursing staff.

Physical Requirements
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Frequent bending, standing, restraining, and active movement for long periods.
