Summary

Work is guided by diverse procedures, processes and/or technical methods of varying complexity. Incumbents have some freedom to select best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact beyond the jobs immediate work unit or team. Works under general Supervision. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods are referred to expert reource. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work. May demonstrate work methods to new employees. Deals directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in exchanges of factual information and provides some explanation in a problem solving capacity; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, require exchanging factual information and providing some explanation.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Leads a work team charged with investigating and resolving discrepancies associated with material handling and control.
  • Provides task leadership and technical expertise to ensure timely and accurate movement and control of inventory.
  • Ensures compliance with documented procedures for material handling practices including ensuring accurate counts, packaging, handling, stock rotation, part identification and shelf life determination.
  • Oversees periodic physical inventories on work-in-progress and finished goods.
  • Through process and procedure verification, system review and transaction documentation, improves security and tracking of inventory. Leads inventory audits and cycle count programs.
  • Investigates and resolves inventory discrepancies.
  • Analyzes data to determine causes of inventory inaccuracies and leads process improvement teams aimed at improving accuracy.
  • Maintains, monitors and provides reports on quality and performance data for the area of responsibility.
  • Monitors and processes incoming NCM from customers, vendors and manufacturing.
  • Ensures RMA and MDA returns are correct, documented and dispositioned.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Knowledge of warehouse, distribution, inventory control and shipping/receiving practices.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, ability to learn and use applications specific to this area.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records of material movement.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal customers.
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools and warehouse equipment such as reel counters, scales, pallet jacks and forklift.
  • Specific certifications and/or licenses as required.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
  • Duties of this position require occasional sustained concentration to focus on small areas, objects, computers, etc.
  • Duties of this position require occasional light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motion, standing, sitting in a confined work space, climbing, using equipment, handling lightweight materials, etc.
  • Duties of this position require occasional heavy manual effort and considerable exertion including lifting objects over 20 pounds, requiring straining, pulling and lifting.

Typical Experience

  • Four to five years of relevant experience.

Typical Education

  • Additional Cources after High School, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
