WDAY, the ABC affiliate in Fargo, ND, is seeking a Live Events Truck Technician to join our team. Successful applicant will be self-motivated, detail-oriented and a team player. Broadcast engineers collaborate with producers, directors, and other staff to guarantee the quality and reliability of broadcasts, address technical issues as they arise, and stay abreast of technological advancements to implement state-of-the-art broadcasting solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Installation, repair, and maintenance of state of the art studio broadcast equipment, including high definition video play out servers, cameras, routers, switchers and satellite equipment.
- Collaborate with our remote production truck during live sports or news events, setting up and maintaining cameras, replay machines, graphics, audio, and routing and switching equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and adapt to varying facilities and technical setups.
- Drive and operate a mobile studio truck for live shots.
- Assist guests with mics and earpieces.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong computer, electronics, and troubleshooting skills required.
- Previous experience in live TV news and sports production as a live truck operator or photographer strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge, experience, and understanding of cameras, audio and transmission equipment, and broadcast techniques/language.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure while multi-tasking to meet tight deadlines, dealing with unexpected changes calmly.
- Follows directions and instructions well, and offers solutions or ideas.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.
- Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.
- Interested applicants must have schedule flexibility, as some weekends, evenings, and holidays will be required.
Expected compensation for this role is between $40,000 and $50,000/year, based on qualifications and experience.
