The Helpful Smiles Technology Global Center (HST Global) in Bangalore is a division of the Hy-Vee IT team named as the Helpful Smiles Technology Center based in the US. It supports Hy-Vee’s business growth and modernization needs by accelerating the adoption of technology across enterprise operations. It offers tech talent the unique opportunity to transform retail technology at Hy-Vee and understand different markets and cultural dynamics, as well as the opportunity to work locally and remotely on IT challenges. The Hy-Vee IT team is looking to expand its capabilities in software development and delivery with roles such as Agile and full stack and data analysts based out of Bangalore. HST Global will serve the entire IT organization across roles and functions.

Digital engineering involves creating these unique experiences be it on web, mobile or any other channel for our customers as we continue to enhance our platforms to help scale up our business.
As Engineering Manager of the Digital Platform, you will own the direction, delivery, and operational excellence of one or two squad engineering team. You will lead a high-performing team of full stack engineers, foster a culture of experimentation and velocity, and partner closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to deliver best-in-class, resilient web/app experiences.


Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:

  • Set the vision and technical direction for all web & app development.
  • Drive web architecture that supports rapid new feature development, seamless experimentation, and scalable UI flows.
     

Operational Excellence:

  • Monitor and minimize web issues, app crashes, elevate performance, and ensure operational health using robust metrics, tools, and incident processes.
  • Champion rigorous practices: code reviews, QA, CI/CD, automation, and disciplined app store release management.
     

Stakeholder Management & Communication:

  • Act as the voice of engineering team across the organization, balancing user needs and business goals.
  • Drive consensus and transparency in cross-team initiatives and launches.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor top engineering talent—fostering an environment of innovation, ownership, and psychological safety.
  • Set and coach clear objectives, enable career progression, and drive accountability.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep experience architecting, building, and shipping web & mobile apps
  • Expertise in JavaScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, TypeScript .
  • Exposure to Ruby on Rails GraphQL or Rest API is a must, should have handled multiple implementations.
  • Strong understanding of web analytics, application monitoring, and performance optimization tools (Sentry, Grafana, Nagios etc).
  • Exposure to cloud stack is desirable – GCP would be a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD for web & mobile apps (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc), automated testing (unit, integration, UI), and release processes.
  • Knowledge of App Store/Play Store operations, submission guidelines, and end-to-end launch strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with significant time building mobile apps (Android and/or iOS).
  • Minimum 3 years in a people management or engineering leadership role, ideally leading cross-functional mobile teams.
  • Deep knowledge of web architecture patterns, build and release processes, performance optimization, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills—able to balance multiple priorities, communicate effectively with product, design, business, and partner teams.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, information science or related field, or equivalent work required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in consumer-facing platforms, marketplaces, or retail domain is a plus.
  • Exposure to AI/ML driven web experiences and personalization strategies.
