About the Position
This is a dually allocated entry level secretarial/administrative position designed to relieve the Executive Officer of administrative detail. Good judgement and discretion are essential to the security of confidential information and data. Under close supervision, incumbent performs routine to moderately difficult office responsibilities. Responsibility extends to conveying important administrative information concerning the function and mission of the agency’s programs and projects. This position is responsible for applying a good working knowledge of the programs under superior's control to the solution of procedural and management problems. This position deals with confidential and very sensitive documents and confidential information. The utmost confidentiality is required under State Law, County Charter, and personnel law

The Prince George's County Police Department is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Maryland, providing a full range of law enforcement services to County residents and business owners. Their mission is to work in partnership with citizens of Prince George's County towards providing a safe environment and enhancing the quality of life. Today, the Prince George's County Police Department serves over 900,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 1800 officers and 300 civilians.
Position Duties
Extracts statistical data from files, logs, and other departmental resources to compile up-to-date information. Proofreads and edits materials to eliminate errors and ensure correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Uses tact, diplomacy, and discretion in performing office duties and maintains confidentiality and security relative to this position. Elicits statistics regarding trends from files, logs, and co-workers to ensure complete analysis and resolution possibilities. Assists other professional staff in the collection and dissemination of statistical data. Deals with very sensitive confidential investigative information and maintains utmost confidentiality under State Law, County Charter, and personnel law. Works in partnership with internal and external customers to assist in finding resolutions to immediate problems. Develops and uses creative strategies to respond to law enforcement, social and environmental concerns. Performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specifications or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work willingly and cooperatively. Acts as the public's liaison in coordinating government services and resources for resolving issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects.
- One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:
- Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-test. Previous passing test scores will be applied.
- Pass a background investigation conducted by the Prince George’s County, Office of Human Resources Management, Public Safety Investigations Division.
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
- Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
- Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
Accountability Statement
The incumbent must meet and maintain the training standards set forth by the Prince George’s County Police Department. The incumbent shall not disseminate information, administrative or operational, unless expressly authorized. Information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Police Department), except for work-related reasons, under terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act. The incumbent in this position will be required to sign a confidentiality and/or non-disclosure agreement. The incumbent in this position is deemed “essential personnel” and is subject to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate.
