Empowering Camp Experiences, Building Lifelong Connections - YMCA Camp Nawakwa is hiring a Camp Program Director!

The Camp Program Director coordinates and directs the use of YMCA Camp Nawakwa for weekend/conference groups, family camps, camp store and other programs assigned. Ensures the safety and welfare of all program participants.

Salary for this position is $43,888 per year with full-time benefits and opportunities to grow within the organization.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Ensure procedures, policies and public relations at all times.
  • Responsible for the continued development, implementation, growth and evaluation of all assigned camp programs to include Weekend/Conference Program, Family Camps, Groups, and other programs.
  • Serve as resident host to facilitate a quality experience for all groups. (Includes weekends & nights)
  • Responsible for overseeing adventure/challenge/high ropes activities within programs.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising part-time and/or seasonal staff that are needed to facilitate camp programs within assigned departments.
  • Work closely with the Food Service Manager to coordinate food service to camper groups and staff.
  • Act as a team member, working closely with other staff on all interrelated matters.
  • Responsible for a budget and for achieving revenue goals and for controlling expenses.
  • Responsible for the marketing of camp programs. This includes preparation and dissemination of camp literature as well as communicating to potential user groups and program participants.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate files and records.
  • Responsible for maintaining the proper use of all camp equipment.
  • Work with the Camp Operations Director to learn all facets of camp programming and operations beyond weekend/conference, day camp and family camp programs.

    Minimum/Preferred Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree plus previous YMCA resident camp experience preferred.
    • Previous training and experience in high ropes courses and adventure/challenge programs required.
    • Must be an energetic person committed to the YMCA mission.
    • Willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated project management, organizational and operational management skills with the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and/or Microsoft applications with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology and applications.

    Child Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by: 

    • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
    • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
    • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
    • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
