Mark43’s mission is to empower communities and their governments with technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build modern, resilient software that first responders and public safety professionals depend on in their most critical moments. From dispatching emergency services to filing reports that shape public policy, our work directly impacts how governments serve their communities—especially those who need it most.
We are looking for a Software Engineer focused on integrations who is excited to connect mission-critical systems that help public safety agencies operate more effectively. You’ll design and build robust, scalable solutions that bridge our platform with 911 call centers, state databases, evidence systems, and other essential services—ensuring the right data flows seamlessly across complex environments.
What You’ll Do
As a member of the integrations engineering team, you’ll build the APIs, data pipelines, and messaging layers that allow our platform to work hand-in-hand with a wide range of third-party systems. Your work will directly enable emergency dispatchers and first responders to get the information they need—faster, more accurately, and with fewer manual steps.
If you were on the team last week, you might have:
Built a bi-directional data integration between Mark43’s platform and a local agency’s 911 system
Designed a scalable approach for ingesting real-time incident data from a third-party provider
Collaborated with external technical teams to align on API contracts and data formats
Used tools like Postman, Kafka, or custom Java services to monitor and test integration flows
Investigated and resolved a failure in a data sync job that impacted real-time updates
Participated in a sprint planning session to scope out a new court records integration
What You’ll Need
We’re looking for a thoughtful and collaborative engineer with 1+ years of professional software development experience, ideally including some exposure to system integrations or backend development. You should be motivated by meaningful problems and excited to contribute to tools that help people in the most critical moments of their lives.
You should have:
1+ years of professional engineering experience or a Computer Science degree plus internship experience
Experience with at least part of our stack: Java, JavaScript, TypeScript + React, and MySQL
A solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, or message queues (Kafka a plus)
Interest or experience in AI-assisted tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or LLM APIs
Strong collaboration skills and comfort working with both internal and external stakeholders
A pragmatic approach to solving technical challenges and delivering value incrementally
People Who Thrive on Our Team Also Tend to Be:
Mission-driven – You care deeply about building technology that improves lives and strengthens communities
Curious and humble – You ask questions before making assumptions and actively seek feedback
Team-oriented – You value cross-functional collaboration as a key to shipping great software
Growth-minded – You look for ways to improve every day, even if the path isn’t always clear
Calm under uncertainty – You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and solving problems without a roadmap
Location
This role is based in our Manchester, UK office and follows a hybrid work model. Team members are expected to be in the office at least three days per week to foster strong collaboration and a connected team environment.
