We seek a dynamic and visionary Director of Strategic Advancement to join our senior leadership team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in advancing the Museum’s mission by leading and developing a team of five focused on generating annual contributed revenue of $2M or more, as well as initiatives that drive future growth, expand community engagement, and generate sustainable revenue.  We offer generous PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance, EAP, FSA, and DFSA, 401 (k) plans, free parking, Family CMA membership, guest passes, and discounted public transit cards. The Director of Strategic Advancement reports directly to the Executive Director and is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. 


  

Primary Role:

To oversee the strategic direction of contributed revenue efforts, sustaining and growing the museum's philanthropic support while maintaining its strong reputation within the philanthropic community and the public.


Responsibilities:

· Participates as a member of the museum executive management team

· Creates and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies, including annual fund, major gifts, events, and capital projects as needed 

· Cultivates and maintains relationships with donors, volunteers, foundations, and corporate funders

· Establishes and monitors fundraising goals and metrics, including progress toward annual goals and resource development plan tactics

· Develop and oversees donor stewardship programs, including mid-level giving society

· Oversees grant application process and reporting requirements for private and public grant funds

· Research new funding opportunities and philanthropic trends

· Builds a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization

· Develops and implements strategies to enhance the museum's reputation and visibility among key philanthropic stakeholders

· Coordinates with the Director of Marketing and Sales on fundraising events and donor communications

· Participates as a member of the museum executive management team

· Works collaboratively with board committees as needed; liaison to Development Committee

· Identifies, recruits & retains effective fundraising volunteers

· Develops and monitors departmental budgets

· Directs the Strategic Advancement team (currently 5 FTE) 

· Oversees donor database management and gift processing

· Represents the museum at community events and with external partners

· Presents a positive, energetic demeanor externally to donors, members, and the community and internally to staff

Requirements

 Skills:

· Knowledge of non-profit landscape and fundraising best practices

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

· Ability to manage multi-phase projects

· Proposal writing experience

· Budget management experience

· Highly organized

· Ability to set and meet deadlines

· Ability to set and shift priorities as needed

· Good listening skills

· Ability to manage and work with paid & unpaid staff

· Experience with donor database systems

· Strong relationship-building abilities

· Public speaking and presentation skills

· Strategic thinking and planning capabilities


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree CFRE preferred

Participation in professional seminars and or continuing education that directly relates to job requirements


Experience:

· A minimum of 7 years’ experience in fundraising and non-profit management

· Supervisory experience
