What You Will Do
You will develop applications utilizing languages such as C# and SQL Server that will run on Microsoft Azure. You’ll collaborate closely with a Lead/Architect, product partners, and actuaries; contribute to architectural decisions; and raise the bar on code quality, performance, and reliability.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and implement cloud-native services and web apps (.NET 8 / ASP.NET Core, Azure, Azure SQL Server).
- Build modern UI features (React preferred; Angular.js experience welcome) with TypeScript.
- Develop and evolve REST APIs/backend services; integrate internal and external APIs.
- Write maintainable code with strong tests (unit/integration); participate in code reviews.
- Build reliability: logging, tracing, metrics, alerting (e.g., Azure Application Insights).
- Automation and integration with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
- (Optional/when relevant) Leverage Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Search) for practical use cases.
- Apply secure-by-default practices
- Partner with DevOps team
- Partner with product/actuarial teams to clarify requirements, estimate work, and communicate trade-offs.
- Understand the application and platform development goals and design effective solutions
- Leverage expertise in Azure AI technologies to design, implement, and optimize intelligent solutions within cloud applications
- Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies
- Follow established company and department standards and best practices
- Communicate with team members via Teams, email, phone, and in-person
- Be proficient with respect to all computer systems used in the performance of daily tasks
Tech you’ll use:
- Back end: C#, .NET 8, ASP.NET Core, EF Core
- Front end: React, Next.js; TypeScript
- Cloud/DevOps: Azure (App Services/Functions, Azure SQL)
- Data & automation: SQL Server/Azure SQL (or equivalent, i.e. Postgres); Office automation (Word/Excel/PowerPoint; VBA and Office.js a plus)
- Security: OAuth2/OIDC (Auth0)
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with expertise in C#, Azure cloud services, and SQL Server to join our dynamic team.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum of 8 years’ experience or equivalent work experience of 10-12 years without a bachelor’s degree
- Minimum one years of recent progressive experience developing software or similar environment
- At least 10 years’ experience in SaaS or similar fast-paced development environment
- Experience in management, lead, or equivalent engineering role
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and Sprint best practices
- Knowledgeable with Cloud Technologies (Azure)
- Experience with Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience with Version Control (Git)
- Experience with User-story mapping
- Experience integrating with APIs both internal and external
- Development experience utilizing C#, VBA, VB.NET, SQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Data platforms such as Azure SQL
- DevOps and deployment technologies such as Azure DevOps and GitHub
- Development and deployment onto cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
- Experience managing SDLC using Agile software development practices including experience implementing CI/CD

- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and must be able to interpret business specs and ask clarifying questions

The Team
The EB Consulting practice provides actuarial and consulting services for multiple industries, for actives and retirees and for Corporate, Public and Multiemployer Plans. This practice works with several key types of clients organized into the following lines of business:
- Pension Plans
- Other Postretirement Benefit Plans
- Health and Group Benefits
Milliman’s Employee Benefits Consulting (EBC) practice builds tools that power actuarial analysis, benefits calculations, and client-facing products. The Solutions, Tools, and Products (STP) team owns the platforms, services, and internal tools that the EBC practice relies on—combining modern cloud engineering with deep domain expertise.
Location
This role is based out of the Milliman office in Seattle, Washington, but candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the US.

Compensation
The overall salary range for this role is $93,700 - $185,400.
For candidates residing in:
- Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the salary range is $103,070 - $169,950.
- New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco the salary range is $112,440 - $185,400.
- All other locations the salary range is $93,700 - $154,500.
A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
