ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under minimal supervision, assumes responsibility for the acquisition of library materials including ordering, invoicing, and accurate record-keeping. Processes a wide range of materials in a timely manner for library patrons to enjoy.

  • Uses the acquisitions system to create and process orders for library materials.
  • Works with third-party vendors and Library Finance to establish new vendor relationships including creating and maintaining vendor records.
  • Reconciles the receipt of materials and works with various vendors to procure credits, replacements and other desired resolutions.
  • Processes invoices for prompt payment.
  • Maintains accurate records of expenditures for library materials.
  • Ensures a smooth fiscal closeout each year.
  • Performs routine departmental duties, such as creating brief cataloging records and cataloging new materials for all seven library locations.
  • Supports Collection Services with their daily tasks such as box sorting and opening, mail distribution and daily check-ins.
  • Delivers exceptional and engaging service to the public. Works in public service areas as needed at the Main Library and branch locations, providing outstanding customer service.
  • Assists internal customers across all library locations with training, troubleshooting and support for their library orders.
  • May participate in the selection of library materials and maintenance of the collection.
  • Other duties as required for the good of the Library.

     

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university is required. In exceptional instances, specialized education, training and/or experience may be substituted for part or all of the required elements.

  • Knowledge of urban public library concepts and techniques, literature and media, digital resources, and current technology.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to resolving technical issues.
  • Dependable and punctual; demonstrates a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated capacity for self-directed work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in public libraries, particularly in Technical Services, or other community settings is highly desirable. Fluency in a language in addition to English is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Ability to operate standard office equipment; transport carts of materials which can weigh more than 100 pounds across a level floor or on a ramp; carry baskets of materials weighing up to 30 pounds; pay attention to details and concentrate on tasks despite frequent interruptions and moderate noise levels; communicate effectively and exchange accurate information with coworkers and members of the public; read and organize written material; place library materials on shelves or carts which can be located at floor level or overhead 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work in assigned area, including public desk, office areas, training rooms, and various library locations as necessary. Typical exposure to noise, stress and interruptions in a lively, urban public library. 

SCHEDULE: The work week is 37.5 hours assigned in the best interests of the Library. The initial schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
