SUMMARY
In this role, you will assist with various law enforcement duties under the supervision of certified officers, contributing to the safety and well-being of the community. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement and gaining experience before obtaining certification.
Note:
This position is intended as an entry-level opportunity for individuals aspiring to become certified law enforcement officers. The city provides training and support to obtain necessary certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist certified police officers in patrolling designated areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
· Provide support during community engagement activities and public events.
· Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service as directed.
· Conduct preliminary investigations, including observing and reporting incidents, taking notes, and gathering information.
· Enforce local ordinances and city codes under supervision.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation of activities and incidents.
· Perform security checks of public facilities, parks, and other city properties.
· Assist in traffic control and pedestrian safety measures.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs.
· Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Basic knowledge of law enforcement principles and community policing strategies.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
· Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
· Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Basic computer skills for report writing and data entry.
· Demonstrated commitment to public service and community safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Must be at least 21 years of age.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
· No prior felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
· Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
· Willingness to pursue police certification upon employment (training provided if not certified).
· Physical fitness and ability to meet department standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
· Ability to stand, walk, sit, run, and perform physical activities for extended periods.
· Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold.
· Exposure to potentially stressful, high-pressure situations.
· Work may involve irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Continuous need for alertness and situational awareness in various environments.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Non-certified police officer are under the general supervision of the Patrol Sergeant of the Opa-locka Police Department.
