The Global Mobility Consultant will act as a trusted advisor within the global mobility function, specializing in employee-level tax compliance for expatriates, senior executives, cross-border moves and special assignment cases. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Benefits and Mobility, this role will complement the Global Mobility Manager by providing deep technical expertise in tax filings, payroll coordination, and complex assignment structures.
The Consultant will partner closely with the Global Mobility Manager and internal teams—including HR Business Partners, Payroll, Finance, and Legal—as well as external tax vendors, to ensure compliant, efficient, and employee-friendly mobility solutions. As time permits, the role may also support global benefits governance or other Total Rewards initiatives.
A Day in the Life
- Lead coordination of expatriate and senior executive tax filings with external providers
- Provide tax guidance on international assignments, remote work, cross-border employment and business travel to internal teams and assignees/executives as applicable
- Manage tax equalization, hypothetical tax, and gross-up processes in collaboration with Payroll, Finance and the Company’s external tax vendor
- Serve as a subject matter expert on mobility tax compliance (employee and employer tax obligations), shadow payroll, social security, and permanent establishment risk
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with policy and service expectations
- Advise and educate HR Business Partners and business leaders on tax-related aspects of global assignments and domestic and cross-border transfers
- Support planning and implementation of global assignments, including complex or non-standard cases
- Provide consultative support on special employee tax cases and compliance matters to internal teams and assignees/executives
- Participate in global benefits governance or other cross-functional projects as workload permits
You Bring This Value
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in global mobility or international employee tax compliance, either in-house or within a professional services or consulting environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of international tax compliance, including expatriate tax returns, tax equalization, assignment tax planning, and related payroll considerations
- Familiarity with global payroll operations and the interaction between compensation, benefits, and international tax obligations
- Proven experience working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Payroll, Legal, and external tax or mobility vendors
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex tax and mobility issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments in a fast-paced, global environment
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a consultative approach to supporting international employees and business stakeholders
- A commitment to high-quality service delivery and a focus on both compliance and employee experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of international tax treaties, totalization agreements, shadow payroll, and assignment cost projections
- Professional certification such as CPA, Enrolled Agent, or a recognized global mobility/tax credential (e.g., GMS)
- Experience with global mobility management software (e.g., AssignmentPro, Equus) and/or HRIS platforms
- Understanding of global compensation structures and benefits programs
- Prior experience working in or supporting a multinational organization with globally mobile employees
- Experience contributing to or developing global mobility policies, frameworks, or operational processes
