About the Department

The On-Call Sports Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing various sports camps and classes for youth and adults. This role involves collaboration with staff and contractors to ensure high-quality programming that meets the community’s needs. This is an on-call position with a variable schedule of less than 20 hours per week.

Position Duties

  1. Creates a FUN, safe, inclusive and supportive environment for participants of all ages and skill levels.
  2. Plans and organizes classes, camps, activities, and day-to-day operations to ensure smooth and efficient program delivery.
  3. Collaborates with staff and contractors to enhance and promote program offerings.
  4. Schedules activities, secures facilities, and maintains a detailed program calendar.
  5. Develops and maintains courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, clients, vendors and any other representatives of the community.
  6. Assesses and determines recreation program and community needs; ensures evaluations are conducted, results tabulated and reported; suggests new and alternative programs. Initiates activities to meet those needs.
  7. May assist with sports leagues, tournaments, and other events as needed. Acts as the contact, program lead, or on-site attendant when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Priority consideration is given to applicants with: 


  • Sports and/or recreation experience.
  • Education in Sports and Recreation Management, Business, Marketing, and other related programs
  • Experience with scheduling sports programs and events.
  • Working with program providers/contractors.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Canva and/or programming software.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, and in email.
  • Ability to effectively connect with the public, handle stressful situations and work cooperatively with other employees.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make independent, safe, and professional decisions.
