Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the sheet metal trade, one (1) year of which shall have been at the journey level.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
  • Knowledge of the methods and skills in the equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for a wide variety of sheet metal work.
  • Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.

Preferred

  • Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  1. Leads and performs a variety of skilled journey-level sheet metal-related installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  2. Fabricates, assembles, and installs a variety of sheet metal such as heating, ventilating, and air- conditioning (HVAC) ducts, hoods, filter frames, locker parts, components for coolers, ovens, and other kitchen equipment, guards for industrial equipment, etc.
  3. Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on materials, using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers.
  4. Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers to cut, bend, block, and form, or straighten materials.
  5. Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bond parts to assemble products.
  6. Performs work on-site or in a shop.
  7. Drives a vehicle to and from locations and keeps the vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
  8. Performs operator maintenance on the vehicle and keeps it in orderly condition.
  9. Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used.
  10. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
