Job Summary: Ice Miller is seeking a Business Development Manager to lead business development efforts for the Public Finance and Real Estate, Environmental, and Energy Law(REEL) practice groups. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in law firm business development, with a proven track record of enhancing client relationships. This partner-facing role involves developing and executing comprehensive marketing and business development strategies. We’re looking for a forward-thinking, resourceful team member with knowledge of legal marketing best practices and interest in these practice areas. A successful Business Development Manager will be a self-starter who is proactive in identifying new business opportunities, knowledgeable about the legal industry, and able to execute efficiently to achieve measurable business development results.
***Salary in the range of $90,000 - $130,000 dependent on location and experience level***
Essential Job Duties:
- Collaborate with attorneys to design and implement strategic business development initiatives focused on attracting, retaining, and expanding client relationships.
- Draft and coordinate customized pitches, client presentations, and responses to RFPs tailored to each client’s business and preferences.
- Monitor industry and client news to proactively identify BD opportunities and communicate lead generation ideas to attorneys.
- Develop and manage systems to track, measure, and report on BD initiatives; advise attorneys on effectiveness and strategy.
- For RFPs, analyze requirements, participate in strategy development, draft comprehensive responses, and collaborate with partners and business development team members across practice groups and offices.
- Conduct and summarize research on new and prospective clients, competitive intelligence, and market conditions using tools such as Westlaw and Lexis, in preparation for client meetings, pitches, RFPs, and other initiatives.
- Prepare submissions for legal directories and research guides, including drafting, editing, organizing submissions, coordinating researcher interviews, and tracking rankings and accolades.
- Develop, draft, organize, and maintain marketing collateral and experience content, including practice area profiles, brochures, matter lists, website content, and intranet materials.
- Build and maintain practice-specific contact lists within the Firm-wide CRM system.
- Identify, plan, and provide logistical support for internal and external marketing events, speaking engagements, and conferences.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field required
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business development and/or marketing, preferably in a law firm environment
- Strong understanding of law firm structures and the role of business development and marketing teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to propose and implement solutions that drive sales and revenue
- Ability to provide guidance and strategic suggestions to partners
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities simultaneously
- Must be able to perform all essential duties of the role
