We are seeking and experienced accounting professional, who is a creative financial innovator and is someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves. This role will report directly to the GM and spend strategic time with the Corporate Controller, VP of Accounting and COO. This position will act as the lead accounting professional for their assigned property within the LDHG portfolio. Responsible for all forecasts, budgets, financial reports, and analysis that will assist in achieving bottom-line objectives. This role supervises when applicable Assistant Controller and or assigned property accounting staff associates. Must be hands-on, have excellent organizational skills, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. We are a relationship-oriented business with key emphasis on building strong relationships and partnering skills are vital to this role.

What you will be doing:

  • Directs and manages the provision of accurate, timely and objective financial data so that informed management decisions can be made.
  • Safeguards owner assets by creating and maintaining sound internal control systems.
  • Helps establish or recommends to management major economic objectives and policies to improve overall standard practice of assigned hotel.
  • Acts as the main source of contact (business partner) to the General Manager and Corporate Accounting to obtain their financial goals.
  • Direct preparation of monthly and annual reports summarizing hotel revenues, expenses, and provides in depth analysis on past, present and expected operations.
  • The Controller, will be responsible for effectively managing and communicating cash flow related issues, which includes the accurate and timely preparation of cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, cash balances, timely deposits and other control mechanisms.
  • Ensure portfolio compliance on all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and the proper execution of all applicable taxes.
  • Work with Operations Team to build long term value of our asset through financial controls and monitoring of our financial performance which includes revenue creation, expense management, and labor reviews.
  • Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement ideas.
  • Monitor hotel compliance by meeting all required financial reporting deadlines including monthly forecasts, Financial Statements, and Budgets. Implement remediation strategies where needed.
  • Monitor revenues and expenses and ensure the accurate recording in accordance with company's established guidelines. Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement methodologies to management.
  • Analyze financial data and operations in order to assist and advise operations in maintaining and meeting the hotels' financial objectives including balance sheet reviews, employee liabilities, and other liabilities that may have a material impact to our hotel stakeholders.
  • Monitor the capital planning process by assisting management with the calculation of return on capital improvements, gathering support and monitoring the bid process, and ensuring proper upkeep of the property by evaluating scope of work / project and specifications.
  • Partner with their respective hotel operation teams to implement and audit all internal financial controls (including, but not limited to, purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, payroll, and other operating expenses) and implement corrective measures to remedy any control gaps.
  • Ensure compliance on all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and the proper execution of all operational taxes. Provide assistance to management in enforcing compliance in all of these areas.
  • Hire, train, supervise and develop staff, including coaching, counseling and discipline.

Requirements:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 5-10 years of hospitality accounting; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 8 years of hospitality related progressive experience.
  • Prior experience as Hotel Controller or Assistant Controller at a high volume "Full Service" property.
  • Technical and analytical capabilities with a deep understanding of GAAP and USALI
  • Experience in conducting from start to complete finish (entire) month-end close process which includes but not limited to the preparation of journal entries, reconciling various balance sheet accounts including intercompany reconciliation, maintaining the fixed assets module, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Proficient knowledge in the key areas of Payroll, AR, AP, Job Cost, Inventory, Cash Flow Management, Forecasting, Budgeting and a solid understanding of Hotel Operations.
  • Demonstrates and inspires innovation beyond the current status-quo in the industry.
  • Highly trained or experienced with hotel accounting and property management systems; experience with M3 Accounting Core and ProfitSword strongly preferred
  • Knowledgeable of or experience with Hilton PMS system (OnQ), including various point of sale (POS) solutions Micros, Symphony, and Aloha. Other internal systems include payroll processing knowledge of Paylocity or similar, internal office applications on Google Platform (Gmail, Google Sheets, Word, and Excel)

  • Physical capabilities for lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
  • Sit or stand for long periods
  • Perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements consistent with office work.
  • Ability to travel if needed and or requested
